This is a test recording I did using the SanDisk V-Mate with the firmware update of vmate_02.07.ww.b8 (found here: www.sandisk.com Product brochure found here: www.sandisk.com **UPDATE! apparently, SanDisk links above are no longer working or providing the firmware update on this excellent item! Therefore I have provided it for anyone interested here: www.cindyrilla.com More update! Looks like SanDisk is providing the V-Mate FIRMWARE UPDATE on this UK link here: www.sandisk.co.uk More SanDisk V-Mate Links that work as of Aug 8th 2009: Firmware Update Instructions: kb.sandisk.com How to connect V-Mate to TV and other links: kb.sandisk.com Video’s on HOW TO with the V-Mate here in WMV format: kb.sandisk.com Found the MANUAL online again here in PDF: sandisk.es And as of today, Aug. 11 2009, I found the BROCHURE online here: www.sandisk.co.il So just in case, I have saved the PDF’s and firmware update and have it on the above CindyRilla Web site for download. I have the V-Mate set up to one of my TV’s that has only a Tivax TV Converter, via an AV-switch, to my TV (I use the AV-switch so that I can easily switch from my VCR/DVD player or switch to the Sandisk V-Mate) The SanDisk V-mate records really decent video onto my SD and SDHC Card. After recording, I can play it via the SanDisk V-Mate and watch it on my TV or I can take out the SD card and play it on my PC or other devices that except SD/SDHC cards. What I recorded on this day for this test is from our Local news …

i so channel 8.2 call KGW 24/7 news/weather channel
I just discovered this device at Sandisk, and had to see.
They don’t have any example on their site, so this was great.
I read your entire review, & lots of helpful info,
Thank’s
@SaulAnibalXLVI sorry, I only have Xbox here and it’s hooked up another way on a different TV etc. If you go to my video info> at the bottom you can visit the Sandisk Forum link and others there can possibly help you. Check it out. They are really nice & helpful over there. And yea, I used my Sandisk to record this video. I miss this channel. (They changed it from the most awesome local weather channel to some Spanish channel now)
hey can i ask you a question? does it records from a videogame console (for example a wii or playstation 3) and how?, because i dont see those white and yellow ports. Oh, and this video was recorded with it? Thanks
I want to hook up my v-mate to record from my security camera. Any one know how i can get this done. I have a dvr box and a lcd tv and i can record from my dvr but when it comes to record from the camera i cannot any ideas.
Thanks,
@CindyPDX
Hi CindyPDX,
thank you very much for your enthusiasm, I really do appreciate trying helping me. Yes I allready have found the sandisk forum, thank you very much again!!
best regards
Oops, I see you are over on the Sandisk V-Mate Forum. I tried to give my suggestion over there to your thread… I hope you find out what’s going on with your V-mate
You’re not spoiling this at all. Thx for dropping by! I am not all that technical with mine, just able to record things manually.
However, if you click on MORE INFO on my video details, at the very BOTTOM you will find a link that takes you to a Sandisk V-Mate Forum. That is where I have gone for help and more info on how to make the V-Mate work as well as other cool things to do with the video I record with the V-Mate.
Hi there,
I dont want to spoil your vid, but maybe some of you V-Mate users can help me.
I have the latest (well it still is from 2007 i guess) on the device but I can’t record in VGA resolution, only the first few seconds are shown during playback of the video, then only audio is being recorded, has someone similair problems? Although during recording REC is being displayed on the screen all the time, however after a few secs only audio is being recorded.
tanks for updating the firmware it helped out so munch
I MISS KGW Local CHANNEL 8-2 WEATHER CHANNEL! As of the past few days, they no longer play this awesome weather channel, but some Spanish channel instead!
Thank you TheDutchMill. Will check that out. I have also added the LINK to the SanDisk V-Mate Forum found at the bottom of the Video Description >>>.
Videoswitch posted on the forum. Be able to record on 640*480 and see what you record without the screen goes black.
See the sandisk forum, section v-mate

Opps, MP4 and also meant to say, digital devices, as in plural.
Yes, I have the latest firmware, did that first thing when I unpacked it. I mainly got it for security reasons, but have been lazy about seeing if my security camera even works still. I wonder if SD card speed will matter. I know some digital device encode better with faster cards. I figured my 133x should be plenty fast though for PM4 endcoding.
Hmmm, did you do the Firmware Update? (I posted some links to obtain this if you haven’t in the video description)
Also, if I watch what I record in FULL SCREEN on my PC, it looks dullish and not so clear. It does look great when you size the window of whatever media player you use though. And if I watch it on my 13 inch LCD TV, it look just as how it was recorded.
Yea, I get a black blank screen while it is recording – I only hear the sound but can not see video while recording. I haven’t tried the lower quality recording yet though.
The quality is really decent, however it also depends on what you are recording. Like if my antenna on the setup I have is just so-so, it will look bad. I have a TIVAX TV converter set up with all of this and before I record, I hit the signal button to see if I am getting the best possible signal level. Really helps.
Also, yours looks better, I wonder if i got a lemon, ugg.
Does anyone else’s show a blank screen when recording in 640×480 despite quality used? I see preview in 320×240 while recording, but nothing on the higher setting using mp4 (iso).
See updated LINK on video description now. I can’t believe SanDisk is no longer providing info, and firmware update for this excellent item!
Thank you for the heads up on this.
Ohh! I just realized that you mean the links in the video description! Well, I am going to have to upload the firmware update (a must have!), the manual and the brochure some where so others can get this. I have no idea why Sandisk has decided to rid of the PDF files on the V-mate.
Ohhh and JUST FYI on this weeks report– WE GOT TO 108F here in Portland, Oregon the week this was reported and hit a record for the month of July. It was the hottest week for this month of July. We broke the 1968 record.
Oh sorry about the errors… were the errors over on the links I tried to post over on Amazon? BTW, I just tested this with a Sandisk 8 GIG Class 2 SD card and it works awesome! Found it on a good deal over on Geeks(dot)Com. The V-mate Brochure only mentioned SD cards of up to 4 gig but luckily the 8 Gig SD card works on this as well. I’m now tempted to buy a 16 gig SD card for it- I’m pretty sure it will work.
Thank you for this video. I just got my v-mate and I clicked your links and they both came as 404 errors.
Mark, easy on the lisp, buddy.
Sandisk THE BEST !
I think it’s worth buying considering I’ve saved all my money to buy the Nikon D300 in the name of speed.
WOW!! That Fast.
